In June 2019, the university disclosed a data breach following a phishing attack in May where "an email pretending to be from ACU [tricked] users into clicking on a link or opening an attachment and then entering credentials into a fake ACU login page" and compromised a number of staff email accounts.
Attackers obtained the staff login credentials via the phishing email which were then used to access the email accounts, calendars and bank account details of affected staff members.
