In June 2020, the company was hit by a major ransomware attack that disrupted manufacturing and forced a precautionary shut-down its internal IT systems. Employees were immediately prevented from remote access which impacted their ability to process customer orders. In the aftermath, the company introduced a number of manual processes to continue to accept and fulfill orders.
The company's beer business ceased manufacturing due to the attack, but at the time the company assured customers it had enough stocks to keep supplying pubs and restaurants as they re-opened (after pandemic related closures). Its dairy and juice business was also impacted limiting production of perishables and the company admitted it had "experienced some service misses" here.
The attackers reportedly demanded a ransom of $1 million from the company to prevent the company's data from being published online.
